Multi-Cultural Day
Slough and Eton’s Multicultural Evening: A Celebration of Diversity
February 13th 2025
Slough and Eton's Multicultural Evening is a unique and enriching event that showcases the ethnic diversity of our school community. It’s a time when students proudly highlight the integration of cultures at S+E, working together harmoniously as one united community. Throughout the day, both students and staff embrace their vibrant cultural heritage by wearing traditional clothing and engaging in meaningful conversations that celebrate and educate one another about their cultures and ethnicities.
This year, students took part in decorating their Form group doors, each representing a country from the continent they were assigned. This task was completed with great pride and enthusiasm. In addition, the Houses organized a food market, offering a variety of international cuisines to raise money for their house charities. This popular initiative sparked fascinating conversations, allowing students to explore and appreciate each other's cultures.
During tutor time and lessons, students participated in activities that connected their studies to global cultures. For example, this week’s Oracy lesson focused on the significance of culture and the importance of preserving it. Tutor Time quiz to prepared by ‘Sixth Form Cultural Society’ introducing students to some more cultures and ethnicities that might not be familiar with. The day culminated in a grand celebration, with students and staff showcasing their cultural heritage through performances including music, dance, plays, comedy, poetry, and presentations. These performances captivated a packed audience, highlighting the rich diversity of our community.
This year’s Multicultural Evening was even more special as we had the pleasure of welcoming students from one of our feeder primary schools, The Grove Academy. They joined us for performances and got a first-hand experience of life at Slough and Eton. The students from The Grove Academy thoroughly enjoyed their time with us and are already looking forward to returning next year to perform again. Additionally, we invited some students from The Grove Academy to attend our Rewards Show, where they were in awe of the event and excited to be part of the experience. The day after the event, I met with some teachers from The Grove who were all talking about the event and were expressing their interest to participate in the event next year. Here is what the member of staff who organised students to come to S +E for the event had to say;
Your multicultural event held on Thursday, 13th February 2025, was an amazing, fun-filled celebration. The year 4, 5, and 6 students of Grove Academy are thrilled to have been invited to participate in such a spectacular event. Most students had never attended such an event and for some, it was their first time performing in front of an audience. Our students described the day as magical, fun and extremely enjoyable and they are grateful to have been exposed to such a rich diversity of cultures. They had fun and learnt a lot in the process. Congratulations to all your hardworking students and members of staff who performed and helped to organise such a fantastic show. It was indeed a great success! Many thanks for the invitation, and we look forward to the celebration next year.
