O2 Visit - Network Management Centre

On Tuesday 20th September 2011, sixteen A-level students who study ICT had an informative morning at the O2 Network Centre in Slough. The host at O2 provided clear and precise lectures on how mobile communication infrastructure operates. The lectures included past and current mobile phone communication technology, including radio propagation, data throughput and fault performance.  A tour of the Network Management Centre (NMC) was provided in two groups of eight, with an activity based on network coverage for the students waiting for and after the tour of the NMC. The trip was rounded off with a summary of local (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), with some details on Internet, Intranet and Extranet. All students received an O2 goody bag with a pen, pad of paper and a small tin of mints. All the students enjoyed the experience and the information was valuable for their respective courses.
