Karting 2009
Slough & Eton C of E Business & Enterprise College entered the British Schools Karting Championship for the first time this year.
Having offered the chance to represent the school to all of Year 9, 10 & 11, two qualifying events were run at F1 Karting, Colnbrook, on the evenings of 7th and 8th January. Six drivers were chosen from the 60 racers.
These six, Ilyas Ahmed, Haseeb Salim and Usama Ahmed (Team A) and Waqas Butt, Masood Riasat and Atif Fazil (Team B) were given a further practice session on 13th January and then raced for the school on 20th January. With only the top two teams progressing to the regional finals Team A qualified in second place overall with Team B just behind in third, sadly missing out of progression to the next round.
Ilyas, Hasseb and Usama attended a practice at Daytona, Sandown Park, Esher on Friday 13th March, having convinced Mr McAteer to fund the session. This was closely followed by race day on Sunday 15th March where the boys battled bravely against some excellent young drivers to finish 23rd of 31 teams. The highlight of the day was that Haseeb led Race 8 for 4 laps before eventually finishing a very respectable 5th of 18 racers.
Well done to all involved. See you again next year!
