Introduction.
Our Ethos
As a Church of England School Religious Education is central to the life of the School. Spirituality is a key concern at Slough and Eton and all pupils are encouraged to reflect on their own spiritual understanding and development throughout a variety of classroom activities. Teaching strategies include drama, art, gardening and meditation. The Department is very aware of the role of the local community in the development of a pupil's religious development and utilises nearby places of worship and speakers from faith communities.

Key Stage 3
In year 7, 8 and students study core units on Christianity, Islam and Buddhism, as well as thematic units on festivals, texts, rites of passage, the environment and the arts.

Years 9 and 10
In Year 9 we start the students on their GCSE Course. We feel that the students should all be given the opportunity to take the Full Course GCSE in Year 10. This will give each student a full GCSE by the time they have entered Year 11. Those students who fail to get a C grade in year 10 will then get an opportunity to have another go in Year 11. The students are given the opportunity to study both Christianity and Islam. For this we use the Edexcel Full Course exam. The following link will lead you to the Edexcel Website for GCSE Religious Education, (click here). The students will sit two, two-hour exams.

Years 11, 12 and 13
Year 11 students who do not achieve a C in Year 10 will get another opportunity in Year 11. Those students who achieve in year 10 will get the opportunity to take AS RE following the OCR Syllabus. This course is also offered to Years 12 and 13 students.
