Careers Convention 2010

The success of last year’s Careers convention brought it to Slough and Eton again this year on Thursday 21st January.

Fifteen companies visited our school to share valuable information with the students on post 16 opportunities in various sectors of industry.

The day was organised with the help of the East Berkshire Education Business Partnership (EBeBP) and included stalls from firms in hospitality, business and finance, the civil service and retail.

Some of the companies that attended included Thames Valley Police, Sainsbury’s, Army, Royal Navy, Coca Cola, Bifolco & Matty hair and beauty and Interserve.

The day was structured with each year group, from years 9 – 13, visiting the school hall separately to ensure that the different age groups and circumstances were dealt with in the best possible way and so the students had chance to talk to as many people as possible, without it getting too crowded.

The aim of the day was to provide an opportunity for pupils to explore and find out all they could about different career paths available to them once they had finished their education here at Slough and Eton. It was also beneficial in helping year 9’s decide on which options they might take at GCSE level.

The day was a big success with positive feedback from both pupils and businesses and both are looking forward to attending next year.
