Introduction. The Music Department at Slough & Eton Church of England Business and Enterprise College is a vibrant, active and well-equipped department within the school.
The main priority of the department is to promote and provide pupils with the enjoyment, understanding, satisfaction and opportunities that can be gained from music, through expression and creativity. Pupils engage in a wide range of musical styles and activities, which produce some very interesting outcomes, due to the rich multiculturalism that exists within the school.
At Key Stage 3 pupils explore a diverse mix of musical styles and are given the opportunity to listen, compose and perform. Projects include African Beat, Music and Dance and Indian Music in Year 7; Latin American Music, The Blues and Impressionism in Year 8 and Fusion Music for special events, Film Music and Reggae in Year 9.
This programme of study equips pupils with skills that can be further developed Key Stage 4, where students compose using music software, perform on their musical instrument at a higher level, and write about music from a choice of genres.
Many of our sixth form use the recording studio to produce their own CDs of music that they have composed.
There is a wide range of extra-curricular and performance opportunities that pupils can get involved in. These include Year 7 choir, senior choir, keyboard skills and voice tuition. We also offer instrumental tuition in guitar and drums. Professional musicians are often invited into the school to conduct workshops, so as to motivate, develop and raise the standard of every student, enabling them to maximise their musical potential.
